  Masking tape is a thin and tearable paper with an easily released adhesive on the back meaning it can be removed from walls and paint work without leaving any damage or a sticky residue. It is used mainly in painting or auto spraying to mask off areas that should not be painted and it can also help when trying to achieve straight lines.
